Royce Baier, a native of Paxton, Illinois, is owner of Brick Street Restorers. Baier undertook his first brick street restoration in 1978, a year after organizing a petition drive to prevent the blacktopping of Paxton's brick streets. He has restored brick streets in Paxton, Belleville, Onarga, and Champaign.

We restore brick streets throughout the midwest.

Why brick? Because brick streets make a statement about community and values, craftsmanship and endurance.

Brick streets are the most visible evidence of a community's sense of tradition. They are also practical. Although brick streets are more expensive to construct, they can last eighty years and more with little or no maintenance, while their concrete and asphalt counterparts need continuous attention. In the long run, brick streets are far more economical than any alternative.

In the nineteenth century, most midwestern streets were dirt - when they were dry.

In the eighteen eighties brick became the pavement of choice.

So why do brick streets need to be restored? There are two reasons. The first is problems in the foundation. Brick streets need a good foundation, just like any others.

The second is the need to service utilities that run under the street.

Restoring brick streets requires no more expertise or skill than concrete or asphalt. They just look better and last longer.
